One million Australian homes are sitting vacant. That’s twice what we need to solve the housing crisis. They don’t need to be built they are unoccupied right now.

The government isn’t solving this problem. It pretends it doesn’t exist and doesn’t want to know how to solve it either, because it’s too busy playing at politics.

According to recent data, it’s likely that around 5000 foreign buyers could be buying as much as $5 billion worth of residential property in Australia every year.

With immigration being pushed up again in the wake of COVID, what we have is a supply and demand problem that has a simple solution – net zero immigration, meaning we don’t add to the crisis and actually introduce a ban on foreign ownership.

In a housing crisis the government needs to put Australians first.

I agree with the Senator, the solutions to rental crisis are staring the government in the face. The solutions are simple, are common sense and will help all Australians. If Australia cannot house the people already living here then why is the Government not halting all form of immigration? An immigration ban has nothing to do with being racist or anti anything. It simply part of what needs to be done to tackle this rental crisis head on.
The ban on foreign ownership is also a simple straightforward common sense approach to solving this crisis and again the Government sits idle.
Again not about being anti anything – just a solution to the problem !!

While the government makes around $250k in taxes on every new home built it’s unlikely they will do anything to reduce the influx of new customers into the country.

What better country to own property than Australia and what better way to maintain it’s pristine standard that to keep in locked up? Real estate increases in value over time.

While we refuse to see the elephant in the room, the fact is that some people are absolute pigs. Not ‘just a bit ‘ untidy but disgusting.

So, should that foreign person who had been encouraged by the real estate spives (Check out ads in foreign newspapers etc..) to buy property here as investment, future use or potential refugeeism (if thats the word) be forced to submit their investment (assets) into the hands of people likely to have a detrimental effect? For that matter, should any owner suffer these?

Many countries don’t allow foreigners to own property.

I believe that should be the situation here. Well financed foreigners right now are easily outbidding locals. creating a situation where, specially starters, have no chance of entering the market.

Another option is a HIGH tax on the deemed rental value of the unoccupied property. That tax could be isolated to be used for building government owned housing.

Submission sloppy I know but this is first draft.
