I absolutely agree that Australia should rebuild its manufacturing base. Sadly, though, One Nation’s voting record tells a different story. It’s one thing to advocate for manufacturing on social media, but when it comes to voting in Parliament, your party too often goes missing. If we’re serious about rebuilding Australian industry, the votes have to match the rhetoric.

To build a strong manufacturing sector you need cheap energy and cheap labour or lots of automation. To start with, we need cheap gas - gas producers need to be brought into line to provide cheap gas to Australia. For electricity, we can forget nuclear if we want cheap energy.

It won't happen if the One Neuron Gang get in.

Maybe Gina could invest in solar panel manufacturing.

I am lucky to still work in a Australian manufacturer we make medical lights for hospitals ,handrail lighting , and fish farm lights we made some of the lights for the Paris Olympics and we send to overseas countries we are lucky aswell to be in a small country town

When was the last blackout? Don’t remember one since the storm blew the towers over in SA. That was nature, not the grid.

Was was was. Not any more. We've moved on to better technologies with renewable sources of energy. I've just installed solar panels with a battery. It creates enough energy to cover my daytime use and the battery covers my night time use, so don't really need to buy from the grid. My power bills are going to consist of a service charge only most days. Saving the planet and cheaper power bills. Should pay fir itself in 5 years. Excellent!!!

Our best-ever result was 4th cheapest in the OECD back in 2004, and we're mid-pack among developed nations now. Cheapest on earth? Never was. Coal was never "clean." It's the highest-emitting way to make electricity, full stop. Calling it clean doesn't make it so. And "reliable"? Our coal fleet averages 38 years old and broke down around 128 times last summer, roughly eight times more than the market operator expected. During the November 2024 NSW heatwave a third of the state's coal units were offline and AEMO issued blackout warnings. Batteries held the grid up that day, not coal. The biggest single thing on your bill isn't renewables, it's the network: the poles and wires, 30 to 50 per cent of the total. The wholesale spikes come from expensive gas and coal tripping in the heat. "Involuntary load shedding" isn't a Labor invention either. It's standard grid-engineering language used worldwide, including in Texas, for decades. Here's where I actually land I'm pro-nuclear, and I think small modular thorium molten-salt reactors are the real prize. Copenhagen Atomics has done serious engineering, full-scale prototypes and over two years of continuous molten-salt pump operation, and they're on a credible path to a critical fission test by 2028 with commercial units targeted for the early 2030s. That's the conversation worth having what we build next. Not a fairy tale about coal being clean, blackout-proof and the cheapest power on the planet. The moment you check that story, it falls apart in your hands.
