We will always be gracious in saying to people “welcome come inside” but we will never say “Welcome to my country” if we are both born here in Australia, we will only say “Welcome to Australia”, if you’re here on holiday or if you have made Australia your new country”

Actually that indigenous woman is AI.. Welcome to country and acknowledgement of country, each thing quite different but most of you people with no brains don't know the difference... Has been happening a long time before you people foreigners and others have come to this nation to create settlements and colonies that eventually became. One nation. It has its place. Somewhat overdone in some cases and inappropriately done by people who are not the elder of that particular nation of indigenous people when it is a welcome to country. There are rules. Let's put it in your language. You have a visitor in your house. You rush off to the bathroom.. and the doorbell rings. Your visitor decides to open the door and bring in that person. You don't like the idea of that.. because it was the most inappropriate person to welcome somebody into your little bit of country. It has to be the right person doing the welcoming. If your guest opens the door and says yes Malcolm Roberts lives here... But doesn't invite them in. Doesn't make decisions on your behalf.. doesn't make any commitments.. that is an acknowledgement of your country. There's a time in a place when either of those is necessary and there's a time and a place where it's not necessary. It is done too much just for the sake of.. ... Six people at the workplace get together at 8 a.m. on a Monday morning before the doors open at 9 a.m... and your business is.... Selling shoes or doing the laundry or pulling up weeds or washing dogs or making pies.. or anything else. It is considerably overdone in mainstream society to have a welcome or an acknowledgement of country simply because some people want to talk about who's going to order the flour and who's going to roll the pastry. However under certain circumstances it is entirely appropriate. And pause and stop being discriminatory yourself. Feel grateful that someone has welcomed you... I think the welcoming is more Pride in being welcomed rather than being told clear out... for you foreigners.. you people who have arrived here since Federation or you people whose heritage has never really mingled beyond your own type... Acknowledgement of country can be done by anybody at all. It is just a moment of reflection and both events are just momentary reflections.. to acknowledge the respect we have for this nation.. with all the indigenous countries having combined now since Federation even though there was an oversight (rightly or wrongly, ) at Federation. And then there are the stupid stupid brain dead people who seem to think that it costs money to have a welcome to country. That is a lot different than indigenous entertainment. We pay entertainers to perform. We do not pay people who welcomes from the country from which they Forbes came... And we do not pay anyone who acknowledges that people have been here being custodians of this land long long before federation. We pay white people black people yellow people happy people said people also to people for their entertainment.. But that is very very uncommon and never regarded as a welcome to country. And just as a politician can have a car and an airline ticket to bring them into somebody else's country to conduct business... On the odd occasion somebody doing an acknowledgement of country or much more likely, the entertainment section of acknowledgement , on the cage in the taxi fare or match match more irregularly, an airline ticket maybe supp. This is very unusual and never never never for acknowledgement of country for anything big. Maybe the taxi fare to get to the location and pull you up at the right car parking spot so you don't have to encounter all you white fellow mockers and yellow fella thieves and purple and the green and the rainbow and all of the other people.. Don't be so upset and don't be so racist because you people don't understand the difference between a welcome to country and acknowledgement of country entertainment from indigenous performers or that you have only had a very short time in this nations history. Remember there was no Commonwealth of Australia until the 1st of January 1901. And if you have arrived here. Any of your bloodline whatsoever... If you have arrived here after that date then you are not a true Australian... Just the new one. Be grateful if you have been welcomed. It's normally 20 to 60 seconds maximum and often if at formal events, an education opportunity about what the name of the people were upon that land and how far their land had spread before the people of the next land had occupied. Currency is no excuse to be so racist. I grew up with a beautiful half cast family in 1970 elders were amazing people no mention of the word.

I grew up in a small town in the Western Australia wheat belt, we had a great aboriginal population. Most worked and contributed to the town and I agree with the woman in this post because we were all in it together. She has hit the nail on the head with what most people now feel about the WTC that we have to put up with all the time. My family (generations) are all buried in the same cemetery as the Aboriginal people are buried in. I went to school with the kids for many years and there was no division in the schools its the Government of today that are directing the division.

I totally agree. As a migrant who fled South Africa, I came to Australia hoping to be welcomed—and I truly was. I'm so grateful for Australia’s acceptance and kindness. ​Did I bring my old culture with me? Absolutely not. Why would I? Even the Springboks aren't my team anymore! I’m here to embrace this country and help make Australia a great place for all Australians.
