Malcolm Roberts says he’s concerned the Australian Institute of Family Studies has “left me confident they are genuine in providing data for Australian families”, then immediately complains that its definition of family includes single parents, kinship families and other diverse structures. That isn’t mission creep. That is literally studying Australian families as they actually exist. AIFS was established in 1980 under the Family Law Act 1975 to research factors affecting family wellbeing. Its remit is not, and never has been, “study only married heterosexual couples with children and tell us why they’re best.” Its job is to research Australian families, including how family structures, relationships, work, separation, parenting and social change affect people. And yes, that includes single-parent families, blended families, de facto couples and kinship arrangements. Those are not invented categories designed to make the word “family” meaningless. They are real households containing real adults and real children. AIFS has been documenting family diversity for decades, not because somebody recently discovered “wokeness”, but because Australian family life has actually changed. Roberts also appears suspicious that AIFS researches domestic labour, employment patterns and relationship dynamics. Again, that is not evidence of ideological capture. It is family research. Recent AIFS work, for example, finds that married women remain more likely than women in de facto relationships to take on traditionally female household responsibilities, and that women continue to perform more unpaid domestic work overall. It also reports that divorce rates in Australia are currently at their lowest level in around 50 years. Those findings don’t say marriage is bad. They describe measurable differences in how Australian couples live. The particularly revealing line is Roberts saying One Nation believes in promoting “traditional family units rather than narratives of victimhood.” A research institute is not there to promote his preferred family structure. It is there to measure reality. Something Senator Malcolm Roberts seems determined to avoid. If the evidence shows marriage has benefits, publish it. If it shows women are carrying disproportionate unpaid work, publish that too. If single-parent families face different pressures, study them. If divorce rates fall, report it. Research stops being research the moment politicians decide the answers should be chosen first. Roberts is perfectly entitled to advocate for traditional families. He is not entitled to demand that an independent research body pretend every Australian family already looks like the one he prefers. Politics isn’t a team sport. Facts over noise.

OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY Reverend Stefanus Samberi, An Irian Barat Person Neither Indonesian nor Dutch Correcting the Distortion of the History of Irian Barat Based on World Historical Documents Reverend Stefanus Samberi, an Irian Barat person, was a figure who played an important role in the international political and economic processes concerning the status and future of Irian Barat. Based on world historical documents concerning the political and economic rights of Irian Barat, the struggle and role of Reverend Stefanus Samberi can be described as follows: 1. Role in the International Political Dynamics of Irian Barat Reverend Stefanus Samberi, born in the City of Serui on July 6, 1935, was an international diplomatic figure who played a role in the global political and economic process concerning the status of Irian Barat since 1961. He attended a strategic meeting in Washington, D.C., on April 24, 1961, with the President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Sukarno, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Soebandrio. The meeting was part of the international political dynamics that subsequently led to TRIKORA (People's Triple Command) on December 19, 1961, namely the war between the Republic of Indonesia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands concerning Irian Barat. The conflict was subsequently mediated by the United States and the United Nations (UN), which ultimately resulted in the New York Agreement of August 15, 1962. The New York Agreement was signed by the Republic of Indonesia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands as the contracting parties. The agreement subsequently gave rise to United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 1752 of September 21, 1962, which established Irian Barat as a Non-Self-Governing Territory and placed it under the Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24), as well as the establishment of UNTEA (United Nations Temporary Executive Authority). On October 1, 1962, Reverend Stefanus Samberi was recognized within the UNTEA administrative structure and received official United Nations Card No. 206 as a Junior Labour Inspector. Based on the New York Agreement and United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 1752, the Netherlands transferred the administration of the government of Irian Barat to UNTEA. Subsequently, UNTEA transferred the administration of the government to the Republic of Indonesia on May 1, 1963. 2. The Rome Agreement of September 30, 1962 On September 30, 1962, Reverend Stefanus Samberi signed the Rome Agreement, which established a special task for the Republic of Indonesia to develop Irian Barat for 25 years, namely from May 1, 1963 to May 1, 1988. 3. The First Work Contract between Irian Barat and PT Freeport McMoRan On April 7, 1967, Reverend Stefanus Samberi, as the holder of United Nations Card No. 206, signed the first Work Contract Agreement between Irian Barat and PT Freeport McMoRan. The contract was valid for a period of 30 years, namely 1967–1997. The agreement did not involve the signature of any Indonesian state official. This agreement constituted an Irian Barat State Security. 4. Inauguration as Chairman of the Special Red-and-White Movement for Irian Barat On August 17, 1968, Reverend Stefanus Samberi was inaugurated at the State Palace as Chairman of the Special Red-and-White Movement for Irian Barat based on: 1. Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 13566/7/68; and 2. Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 035/TK/1968, dated August 17, 1968, with the approval of the United Nations. 5. Role in Initiating the PEPERA Reverend Stefanus Samberi was the figure who initiated PEPERA (Act of Free Choice). On January 21, 1969, Reverend Stefanus Samberi met with Queen Juliana of the Netherlands to discuss changing the mechanism of Self-Determination (PENASE) into the Act of Free Choice (PEPERA), which was carried out through representation. The change was approved 100% by Queen Juliana. 6. Implementation of PEPERA in 1969 PEPERA was held from July 14, 1969 to August 2, 1969. In its implementation, the Irian Barat Council of Deliberation of PEPERA (DMP) was given two choices: 1. To remain in association with Indonesia; or 2. To sever its relationship with Indonesia. 7. Reverend Stefanus Samberi's Role in the DMP Reverend Stefanus Samberi was the figure who directed the 1,024 members of the Council of Deliberation of PEPERA (DMP) to choose to remain in association with Indonesia. This choice was made so that Indonesia would carry out its special task of developing Irian Barat for 25 years, namely from May 1, 1963 to May 1, 1988, in accordance with the Rome Agreement of September 30, 1962. The 1,024 members of the DMP, together with Reverend Stefanus Samberi, making a total of 1,025 DMP members, were members of the Special Red-and-White Movement for Irian Barat. The result of PEPERA subsequently gave rise to United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 2504 of November 19, 1969, which recorded that the Indonesian Government, in implementing its national development plan, gave special attention to the advancement of Irian Barat, with special development funds for Irian Barat provided through the Asian Development Bank, United Nations agencies, or other means to Indonesia for the economic and social development of Irian Barat. 8. The Death of Reverend Stefanus Samberi On April 13, 1983, Reverend Stefanus Samberi was killed by the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. His name and the history of his struggle were subsequently concealed and manipulated by the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. As a result, the people of Irian Barat have remained victims to this day. EMPHASIS This biography emphasizes that Reverend Stefanus Samberi was an Irian Barat person and neither Indonesian nor Dutch. He was positioned as an international figure within the framework of the United Nations (UN), who had a role in the political, governmental, economic, and self-determination processes concerning the future of Irian Barat.
