Snowy 2 rorts abound
Shut it down before taxpayers lose more money.
The sunk cost loss from shutting Snowy is around $8bn.
The final cost is $42bn & climbing.
The annual operating loss once completed is above $500m annually.
For a measly 370Gw/h of power p.a.
Turnbull vanity project will be an albatross around taxpayers’ necks forever
Quoting Peter:
“The Auditor-General found a mechanism on Snowy 2.0 that he called the parking lot. When a payment claim comes in without enough supporting information to assess it, the claim goes into the parking lot.
And while it sits there, it gets paid.
The money goes out first. Whether it should have gone out is worked out later.
Between the 2023 reset and November 2025, $770.8 million went through that mechanism. Of that, $116.3 million was later confirmed as allowable and $23.3 million was excluded. As at November 2025, $480.9 million was still unresolved.
The audit records that the unresolved amount now exceeds the security bond Snowy Hydro holds from the contractor. In plain terms, if the contractor failed, some of that money could not be recovered.
The parking lot is not defined anywhere in the contract. There is no documented process agreed with the contractors for how it works. And Snowy Hydro holds a clawback right for subcontracts that were never properly approved.
As at December 2025, it had never used it.
The lawful explanation is real and I will give it its best run. New South Wales security-of-payment law sets hard deadlines for paying builders. A head contractor who misses them is in breach. A mechanism that pays inside the statutory window while flagging the claim for later assessment is a defensible way to stay lawful and keep the job moving. That is a genuine answer.
It does not explain why a mechanism moving three-quarters of a billion dollars appears in no contract, why no process was ever agreed, or why a clawback right sat unused while half a billion dollars stayed unresolved.
This is what oversight looks like when it is technically compliant and practically absent.

And that's IF the wind blows and it's not cloudy...
Does anyone know how much the unions have syphoned off this? I would imagine between them & the government it could be a substantial amount
Peter Lyndon-James is a legend. Definitely worth a follow
This is a remarkable piece of engineering.
Could of had 2.5 nuclear plants for that cost even at CSIROs inflated costs
I’m guessing this is aimed at the LNP who thought up this folly
Cold Chisel wrote a song called No Sense.. This is what this is NO CENTS!
When ideology (Netzero) meets reality (physics)....
The correct power putput annually is not your claimed 370Gwh it is actually around 5300Gwh. Are your other figures quoted so poor?
Malcolm care to comment on the record world wide bushfires and record never been seen before temps in Europe and the USA ??
And don’t forget the disturbance money paid to the NPWS pertaining to endangered species that snowy 2.0 pays the NPWS not to disturb endangered species . More costs . The excuse for wiping out the brumby. But the corroboree frog main cause of decline was mould . And even footprints brings this into the park carried on shoes . So they slaughtered the brumby 8 million in costs . Absolutely hardly any money spent on the advocacy of the heritage horse . That 8 million could have been spent on more humane ways of reducing numbers .
Yep - we need out of this money pit👍
It was ill-concieved from the outset. Pumped storage is great when there is surplus power available from base load 24/7 plant. It is economic at the generation stage as it carries load where otherwise plant might be resting on the governors. It is economic at the recovery stage as it provides power during peak day use. We had no spare overnight capacity, even less now that labour has knocked down base load plant. Even worse for Snowy 2, Bowen's massive subsidy with our money of wind has meant a surplus of wind power during the day, where they are giving it away for free. That is the time that pumped storage was meant to cover. There is absolutely no brainpower coordinating energy policy. Better to mothball it until we have 24/7 nuclear base load plant to use it properly.
Big hero big business man Malcolm Turnbull is the reason we are in this mess.
Fake politicians and civil servants need to be called out and held accountable.
Sounds worse than the Navy seasprite project disaster.
Can we just get on with nuclear please?
Should be good for dumping waste into.
Anyone with a heart beating knows it is another government scam.
Then why did my company get ripped off by over $400k when supporting a third party on this project. I guess it's not what you know but who you know.
Re posting again ,your getting good at it! By the way it was the LNP who started snowy 2 Turnball/ Morrison
Why do they treat our money with such contempt?
Waste everywhere

Best person for the job should always be the rule
Jordan Peterson nails this topic & this country insists on doing the opposite....
Love your work Malcolm you are a man's man to aspire to.
But the private company is a mate of a mate they'll pocket the balance
When a PSYCHOLOGIST is in charge of economics lol
Hasn’t anybody given you the brief Malcom; “Diversity is our strength!” …and I guess, at any cost! 🤷♂️
Dear Diary: today I gave my sole to the devil but I’m rich🤑
Dave Schumacher
DEI Daycare
So how much has ended up in the pockets of Union executives and senior politicians??
I can imagine that $30 million was used on consultants, wages, office rent, advertising and meetings and $2 million on actual courses for people.
So we sit, And we watch, Waiting for our Billy to boil, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me. How's your Billy mate? Has it boiled dry? Keep sitting, Keep watching, Keep Waiting, Your cup of Tea will never come, The Billy dried out a while ago, But sit, And we watch, Waiting for our Billy to boil, You and me will do the Waltzing Matilda for them.
They can pay me $195 thou a year and I’ll pretend I’m Indian or Paki or just black. 🤣
So they prefer diversity over the best person for the job???
Be bettet off giving 4 people $50K ea.
Meanwhile, our country's elderly veterans are sleeping in their cars.
There are Australian born citizens who have worked and paid taxes all their lives, now living in a park across the road from a hospital. Others are on the river bank out of town, with no running water and no toilet.
Because politics is about rewarding friends and punishing enemies.
Diversity but not for straight white males, there are federal government agencies where men are a significant minority, why is that.
Looks like Australian voters have learned nothing yet!
Australians deserve a government that protects our social cohesion and freedom, not one that ducks the hard questions.
Is the Albanese government's approach simply surrender?

She still didn't answer the question...
So...did the PM ever need a 21 person security detail to accompany him to a Christian place of worship? I didn't hear Senator Wong answer the question.
Got it Wong again!!!!!
So she still cannot answer the question
Does Albo only attend church before an election?
One day Penny Wong may the ability to understand questions to answer them.
"ducks the hard questions", from a party that bans media outlets 🤣🤣
Creating groups within a society is a proven way to create conflict. In fact far greater than between boarders. That's basic social psychology.
One nation is the only answer
Does this ramble have a subject?
And Benny Pong is why I vote One Nation
Everyday Australians don't do Bondi shootings
Ask anyone here in south Australia out of the city and they will tell you different Poo Wong Dong what ever your name is.
I guess that was the Wong answer
Answer the question. . I hav not seen U answer a question yet but pass the buck. Put that on notice
So yeh when I go to Japan I’m Japanese and when I go to Africa I’m an African and sometimes when I go to Baghdad I’m a real Iraqi too …. Penny Wong
What a Muppet show 👏
The party that never does
The speaker should be someone voted by the people not by the elected parties
And again Ms Wong why did Albanese need a 20 man security team to visit a mosque?
How about answering the question
Nobody has ever gone into a Christian, catholic, orthodox church with even 1 security person, Never mind 20 !!!
She’ll take this on notice!
How to avoid answering a question. She has it down pat.
But who is it that albanese need 20 security guard in toe to visit that particular group 🤔?
