As many Australians continue to struggle with the cost-of-living crisis, Albanese used the parliamentary family reunion allowance to fly his wife, Jodie Haydon, and son, Nathan Albanese, from Sydney to Canberra on May 12. The return flights on May 14 brought the total taxpayer-funded cost to $2,591.32. Both Jodie Haydon and Nathan Albanese are employed in senior professional roles. Nathan works in Commonwealth Bank’s institutional banking division, while Haydon held a senior executive position at Teachers Mutual Bank. Despite their incomes, taxpayers covered the cost of their travel so they could attend Budget night. Treasurer Jim Chalmers also claimed the family travel allowance to bring his wife, Laura Chalmers, and their son from Brisbane to Canberra.
