Minister: “We passed laws to cancel visas of people promoting hate… and your party voted against it.” Those laws also included making it easier to ban association with neo-Nazis. So let’s be clear what got voted down. Not just “a bill”. Not just “technical issues”. A bill that included stronger powers against hate preachers and measures targeting neo-Nazi links. And what’s the defence? “That’s because of other things in the bill.” Right. Then explain this: “You called for hate preachers to be banned, then voted against laws that would do that.” “You called for migration screening, then you voted against it.” Say it slowly. Call for it. Vote against it. Again and again. This isn’t complicated. When it comes to hate preachers… when it comes to neo-Nazi associations… when it comes to tighter screening… They had a vote. And they said no. At some point Australians have to ask: Are these real positions or just lines for the camera? Because when it actually mattered they didn’t just fall short.
