How can a paper and pencil voting system be hacked?

I am yet to see a polling booth where “electronic” voting is possible.

Our electoral officials must care and account for all ballots cast to allow for possible challenges and recounts.

There is no way such a system can be electronically hacked.

    Hi Malcolm,

I’m concerned about the possible prevalence of the “cemetery vote”. Can this be thwarted?
I believe it is still possible to vote at multiple booths under my own name and pay the fine.

    Cheers.

        Grant and John,

Have you folk checked on the validity of pen marked ballot papers?

        Would be an interesting investigation.

        Cheers,

        Hi Grant,

Direct from AEC website as follows

        https://www.google.com/search?q=aeo+ballot+papers+pencil+or+pen&rlz=1C1AWFA_enAU839AU839&oq=&aqs=chrome.0.35i39i362l3j46i39i175i199i362j35i39i362l4.3146700j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Why are pencils supplied in polling booths?

While the provision of pencils used to be a legal requirement, since 2020 under section 206 of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 the AEC is required to provide an ‘implement or method for voters to mark their ballot papers’.
The AEC has found from experience that pencils are the most reliable implements for marking ballot papers. Pencils are practical because they don’t run out and the polling staff check and sharpen pencils as necessary throughout election day. Pencils can be stored between elections and they work better in tropical areas.
There is, however nothing to prevent an elector from marking their ballot paper with a pen if they so wish.

        Cheers,
        Col

Yeh Grant, I took my own pen too during the covid BS. I was alarmed at the level of cockiness at the polling station. Simply put, we showed up with Legitimate ID, only to be informed ID is not required, I asked why there was no Bar code or serial number on the ballot paper? And was assured this was the safest election ever. The safest election ever, after Senator Roberts investigated the previous election, and found passwords left open, and the wifi still active in the counting machines. And then there was the pencils, used apparently as a one use to prevent spreading covid. Several were left on each of the tables in the ballot booths. So anyone could have picked them up. Great infection control AEC. NOT. Anyways, just to see if they were indeed single use, after we used pens to fill in the ballot, I picked up a pencil, and ensured it could be seen in my hand, and proceeded to leave the polling station, only to be told to return the pencil. As a healthcare professional I asked why, since they were for single use, and then proceeded to question how these pencils are going to be sterilised from the dreaded Covid? The man become very arrogant in his response, giving no rationale whatsoever. For a country to impose compulsory voting, our election system is a freaking joke, and open to so many maladies. Thank you PHON for addressing these serious flaws in our voting systems.

          Folks,
          Compulsory and secret voting.

Imagine the difficulties to face checking all ballot papers against barcodes including papers marked in error and returned to the polling booth operators for replacement.

The ballot papers are initialed by the officials and immediately handed to the voter.
The voter’s name and address are checked and marked on the roll sheet (pen and ruler).

The voter cannot vote again at that polling booth.
If they wish they may try attending another booth but the process will identify that person for further legal action (the vote however cannot be identified)

I sincerely hope no one is going to attempt to claim electoral fraud and stolen elections.

          Cheers,
          Col

PS bring your own pen to avoid various infections.

      Neil Laver says:

      Totally agree John,
Black or Blue pen should be the only things used to mark a ballot paper in any jurisdiction.
Using pencil opens the door for ballots to be altered by a corrupted official, not saying it’s happened but it offers the temptation for someone to possibly doe it.
I also think that there should be some sort of receipt provided to the elector which shows how that person voted in the event there is an incident where a ballot has been altered in any way by someone else.
Electronic voting machines should be outlawed completely and never used in elections or post election counting, it should all be manual with scrutineers observing every process. The US mid terms are the perfect example of the lengths some will go to when trying to change results in an election.

As l said last time we voted ..HOW DID ANDREWS GET RETURNED TO GOVT ? This was the question of so many people’s lips after what he did to Victorians during the COVID profiteering scam .l personally new many people that were voting One Nation as they had simply heard enough blatant lies from the usual culprits in both Lib and Lab ! Everything surfaces with the fullness of time as has become the case . Critical thinking must become a factor if we are EVER going to move ahead ! Go on Australia…lt’s not hard !!!

In reality I prefer sourcing info from many sites other than one nation.

      You have my sympathy.

Obviously you realise your position is rationally indefensible.

Otherwise you would not continue to support your conspiratorial viewpoint with intemperate, belittling, derogatory, defamatory and ill informed responses.

I prefer to converse in a rational and informed manner and hence will not respond to further comments unless you display a calm and rational approach.

      Over to you.

Whats branch stacking? Is it anything to do with manipulating data, or votes essentially for a desired outcome im sorry but there are many ways vec data could be misinterpreted for a desired outcome not all hacking is electronic. Also did the sack dan andrews party votes end up contributing to labours win like i heard? If so, isnt that rather deceitful if not somehow illegal? Oh i guess thats pollitics
And yes i agree that my experience with officials has been less than acceptable, lowering integrity to a level susceptible to data corruption IMO
